| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the Deep East Texas Council of Governments and Economic |

| 4 | 4 | | Development District for 50 years of outstanding service to the |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | citizens of Deep East Texas; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, In November of 1966, 55 local government leaders |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | gathered to address the growth and development opportunities in |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Deep East Texas and the quality of life of residents; they began |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | the process of creating the Deep East Texas Economic Development |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | District, and the Honorable Charles Wilson was unanimously |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | elected temporary chair and president of the newly formed |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | organization; the district's first office opened in 1967; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, In 1972, the district adopted the name of Deep East |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Texas Council of Governments and Economic Development District; |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | the organization serves as a regional planning commission for the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Deep East Texas region, which consists of Angelina, Houston, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Jasper, Nacogdoches, Newton, Polk, Sabine, San Augustine, San |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Jacinto, Shelby, Trinity, and Tyler Counties; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Over the last 50 years, the work of the Deep East |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Texas Council of Governments and Economic Development District |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | has contributed greatly to the economic success of the 12-county |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | region and has continually improved the quality of life for |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | residents; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, On May 25, 2017, the council is initiating a |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | year-long anniversary celebration at its annual Membership and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Awards Luncheon; the organization has had a positive impact on |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | the services and environment of Deep East Texas and is indeed |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | deserving of recognition for helping the region and its residents |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | to thrive; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature, hereby commend all associated with the Deep East |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Texas Council of Governments and Economic Development District |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | for contributing to the vitality of East Texas and the state and |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | extend to them congratulations on the organization's 50th |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | anniversary; and, be it further |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | organization as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
