| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | citizens of Dallas in mourning the loss of Roger Lee Jones, who |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | died January 23, 2017, at the age of 68; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Roger Jones was born on August 15, 1948, and he |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | was raised in the Joppa community of Dallas; he received his |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | early education in Dallas County schools, and he graduated from |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | John F. Kennedy High School; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Jones earned a bachelor of arts degree in |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | history and a master of arts degree in urban affairs from The |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | University of Texas at Arlington; he worked in urban development |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | for the Cities of Fort Worth and Arlington and for Neighborhood |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Housing Services of Dallas, and he served as a consultant across |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | the country when he began working with the Developmental Training |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Institute in Baltimore, Maryland; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, In 2004, Mr. Jones brought his wealth of knowledge |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | to the Texas Legislature as a legislative aide for Senator Royce |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | West; during his two years of service, he provided invaluable |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | advice in such areas as economic development and business and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | commerce, and he created the review procedure for Housing Tax |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Credit applications; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Roger Jones was a loving father who was widely |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | respected for his service on behalf of communities in Texas and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | throughout the nation; he was beloved by many, and he leaves |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | behind memories that will long be cherished by all who were |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | family of Roger Lee Jones; and, be it further |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | memory of Roger Jones. |
