SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 80 In Memory of Roger Lee Jones WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of Dallas in mourning the loss of Roger Lee Jones, who died January 23, 2017, at the age of 68; and WHEREAS, Roger Jones was born on August 15, 1948, and he was raised in the Joppa community of Dallas; he received his early education in Dallas County schools, and he graduated from John F. Kennedy High School; and WHEREAS, Mr. Jones earned a bachelor of arts degree in history and a master of arts degree in urban affairs from The University of Texas at Arlington; he worked in urban development for the Cities of Fort Worth and Arlington and for Neighborhood Housing Services of Dallas, and he served as a consultant across the country when he began working with the Developmental Training Institute in Baltimore, Maryland; and WHEREAS, In 2004, Mr. Jones brought his wealth of knowledge to the Texas Legislature as a legislative aide for Senator Royce West; during his two years of service, he provided invaluable advice in such areas as economic development and business and commerce, and he created the review procedure for Housing Tax Credit applications; and WHEREAS, Roger Jones was a loving father who was widely respected for his service on behalf of communities in Texas and throughout the nation; he was beloved by many, and he leaves behind memories that will long be cherished by all who were privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Roger Lee Jones; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Roger Jones.
