SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 807
WHEREAS, Members of the drama club at Crockett Middle
School in Pecos demonstrated an outstanding commitment to the
arts by organizing a quote-a-thon fund-raiser; and
WHEREAS, For the event, club members tasked themselves
with memorizing 20 quotations from Shakespeare's works, ranging
from one to eight lines, as well as with identifying the play,
act, and scene in which each passage appears and the character
who spoke it; the students then had to correctly recite their
selections and answer questions on them, or else complete one lap
of the school's track; and
WHEREAS, Participants solicited donations for the benefit,
and a portion of the event's proceeds helped to fund a trip for
the students to attend a performance of Larry Shue's The
Foreigner at the Odessa College Globe Theater; the club also made
a generous contribution to Texans for the Arts; and
WHEREAS, Under the guidance of club sponsor Michelle
Taylor, the Crockett students who took part in the fund-raiser
include Anjelica Mata, Courtney Hollon, Haley Hodges, Kaitlyn
Loya, Jonathan Marquez, Louis Le, Gianna Rico, J'Lynn Estorga,
Lauren Conger, Harvey Fuentes, and Adriel Carrasco; and
WHEREAS, Through their efforts, these fine young Texans
not only enhanced their knowledge of the arts but also helped
to support vibrant arts communities across the Lone Star
State, and they are indeed deserving of special recognition;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
Legislature, hereby recognize the members of the Crockett Middle
School drama club on their participation in the Shakespeare
quote-a-thon and extend to them sincere best wishes for the
future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the group as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
