| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Sergeant D. L. Wilson, who was honored with a |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | Lifesaving Award for his bravery in the line of duty; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, On March 10, 2016, Texas Department of Public |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Safety Senior Trooper D. L. Wilson was traveling on Interstate |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | 35 in Bell County when he saw a semi-trailer truck jackknife, |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | strike a concrete barrier, and burst into flames; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Quick to respond in the face of incredible danger, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Sergeant Wilson immediately positioned his patrol car to stop the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | flow of traffic and contacted the Department of Public Safety |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Waco Communications center; he then rushed to the scene of the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | accident, whereupon he discovered that the driver was alive; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Despite the flames engulfing the truck cab, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Sergeant Wilson tried to help the driver, who was trying to crawl |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | through the mud from under the burning wreckage; as the state |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | trooper struggled with the weight of the injured man, a local |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | resident, Robert Sneed, approached to offer assistance, despite |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | the hazards; together, they were able to pull the driver away |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | from the flames to safety; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Sergeant Wilson's quick thinking and selflessness |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | in the face of grave danger saved the life of a 67-year-old man, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | and his decisive and courageous actions bring great distinction |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | to himself, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and the state; |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, hereby commend Sergeant D. L. Wilson for his valor |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | in the performance of his duties as a public safety officer and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | congratulate him on receiving a Lifesaving Award; and, be it further |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
