SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 811 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Sergeant D. L. Wilson, who was honored with a Lifesaving Award for his bravery in the line of duty; and WHEREAS, On March 10, 2016, Texas Department of Public Safety Senior Trooper D. L. Wilson was traveling on Interstate 35 in Bell County when he saw a semi-trailer truck jackknife, strike a concrete barrier, and burst into flames; and WHEREAS, Quick to respond in the face of incredible danger, Sergeant Wilson immediately positioned his patrol car to stop the flow of traffic and contacted the Department of Public Safety Waco Communications center; he then rushed to the scene of the accident, whereupon he discovered that the driver was alive; and WHEREAS, Despite the flames engulfing the truck cab, Sergeant Wilson tried to help the driver, who was trying to crawl through the mud from under the burning wreckage; as the state trooper struggled with the weight of the injured man, a local resident, Robert Sneed, approached to offer assistance, despite the hazards; together, they were able to pull the driver away from the flames to safety; and WHEREAS, Sergeant Wilson's quick thinking and selflessness in the face of grave danger saved the life of a 67-year-old man, and his decisive and courageous actions bring great distinction to himself, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and the state; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, hereby commend Sergeant D. L. Wilson for his valor in the performance of his duties as a public safety officer and congratulate him on receiving a Lifesaving Award; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
