55 WHEREAS, Mineola lost an admired civic leader with the
66 passing of Shirley Chadwick on May 7, 2017, at the age of 74; and
77 WHEREAS, The daughter of Corwin and Laura Tumbleson, the
88 former Shirley Tumbleson was born in Carthage on April 10, 1943,
99 and grew up with the companionship of a sister, Betty; shortly
1010 after graduating from high school in 1961, she married James
1111 "Gene" Chadwick, with whom she shared 53 rewarding years, until
1212 his passing in 2015; the couple were blessed with two sons, James
1313 "Chad" Chadwick Jr. and John David Chadwick, and over the years,
1414 their family grew to include six beloved grandchildren, Ashley,
1515 Gerald, Christine, Kenzie, Jon-Michael, and Garrett; and
1616 WHEREAS, In 1968, the Chadwicks put down roots in Mineola,
1717 where Mrs. Chadwick became a pillar of the local community; she
1818 enjoyed a rewarding 25-year tenure as administrative director of
1919 the Mineola Area Chamber of Commerce, during which time she
2020 devoted herself to countless initiatives in support of promoting
2121 and preserving the city's rich history and natural beauty and
2222 encouraging business development; the organization honored her
2323 tireless efforts with its 2010 Distinguished Lifetime
2424 Achievement Award; and
2525 WHEREAS, This notable Texan further benefited the region
2626 through her service as a founder of the North East Texas Tourism
2727 Council and as a member of the Mineola Youth Foundation board and
2828 the Mineola Lions Club, which named her its Woman of the Year in
2929 1999; sustained by an abiding faith, she was also an active
3030 congregant of the First United Methodist Church in Mineola, where
3131 she held numerous leadership roles, taught Sunday school,
3232 volunteered with the youth group, and played in the handbell
3333 choir; in her leisure hours, she enjoyed quilting and gardening,
3434 and she relished the time she spent with the Wood County Master
3535 Gardeners; and
3636 WHEREAS, Possessed of a generous nature, an inspiring work
3737 ethic, and an infectious sense of humor, Shirley Chadwick left an
3838 indelible mark on all those who shared in the richness of her
3939 life, and her contributions to Mineola will continue to resonate
4040 for years to come; now, therefore, be it
4141 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
4242 Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Shirley Chadwick
4343 and extend sincere condolences to her loved ones and many
4444 friends; and, be it further
4545 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4646 her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this day, it do
4747 so in memory of Shirley Chadwick.
