4	4	Shirley Chadwick
5	5	WHEREAS, Mineola lost an admired civic leader with the
6	6	passing of Shirley Chadwick on May 7, 2017, at the age of 74; and
7	7	WHEREAS, The daughter of Corwin and Laura Tumbleson, the
8	8	former Shirley Tumbleson was born in Carthage on April 10, 1943,
9	9	and grew up with the companionship of a sister, Betty; shortly
10	10	after graduating from high school in 1961, she married James
11	11	"Gene" Chadwick, with whom she shared 53 rewarding years, until
12	12	his passing in 2015; the couple were blessed with two sons, James
13	13	"Chad" Chadwick Jr. and John David Chadwick, and over the years,
14	14	their family grew to include six beloved grandchildren, Ashley,
15	15	Gerald, Christine, Kenzie, Jon-Michael, and Garrett; and
16	16	WHEREAS, In 1968, the Chadwicks put down roots in Mineola,
17	17	where Mrs. Chadwick became a pillar of the local community; she
18	18	enjoyed a rewarding 25-year tenure as administrative director of
19	19	the Mineola Area Chamber of Commerce, during which time she
20	20	devoted herself to countless initiatives in support of promoting
21	21	and preserving the city's rich history and natural beauty and
22	22	encouraging business development; the organization honored her
23	23	tireless efforts with its 2010 Distinguished Lifetime
24	24	Achievement Award; and
25	25	WHEREAS, This notable Texan further benefited the region
26	26	through her service as a founder of the North East Texas Tourism
27	27	Council and as a member of the Mineola Youth Foundation board and
28	28	the Mineola Lions Club, which named her its Woman of the Year in
29	29	1999; sustained by an abiding faith, she was also an active
30	30	congregant of the First United Methodist Church in Mineola, where
31	31	she held numerous leadership roles, taught Sunday school,
32	32	volunteered with the youth group, and played in the handbell
33	33	choir; in her leisure hours, she enjoyed quilting and gardening,
34	34	and she relished the time she spent with the Wood County Master
35	35	Gardeners; and
36	36	WHEREAS, Possessed of a generous nature, an inspiring work
37	37	ethic, and an infectious sense of humor, Shirley Chadwick left an
38	38	indelible mark on all those who shared in the richness of her
39	39	life, and her contributions to Mineola will continue to resonate
40	40	for years to come; now, therefore, be it
41	41	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
42	42	Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Shirley Chadwick
43	43	and extend sincere condolences to her loved ones and many
44	44	friends; and, be it further
45	45	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
46	46	her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this day, it do
47	47	so in memory of Shirley Chadwick.
