SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 819 In Memory of Shirley Chadwick WHEREAS, Mineola lost an admired civic leader with the passing of Shirley Chadwick on May 7, 2017, at the age of 74; and WHEREAS, The daughter of Corwin and Laura Tumbleson, the former Shirley Tumbleson was born in Carthage on April 10, 1943, and grew up with the companionship of a sister, Betty; shortly after graduating from high school in 1961, she married James "Gene" Chadwick, with whom she shared 53 rewarding years, until his passing in 2015; the couple were blessed with two sons, James "Chad" Chadwick Jr. and John David Chadwick, and over the years, their family grew to include six beloved grandchildren, Ashley, Gerald, Christine, Kenzie, Jon-Michael, and Garrett; and WHEREAS, In 1968, the Chadwicks put down roots in Mineola, where Mrs. Chadwick became a pillar of the local community; she enjoyed a rewarding 25-year tenure as administrative director of the Mineola Area Chamber of Commerce, during which time she devoted herself to countless initiatives in support of promoting and preserving the city's rich history and natural beauty and encouraging business development; the organization honored her tireless efforts with its 2010 Distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award; and WHEREAS, This notable Texan further benefited the region through her service as a founder of the North East Texas Tourism Council and as a member of the Mineola Youth Foundation board and the Mineola Lions Club, which named her its Woman of the Year in 1999; sustained by an abiding faith, she was also an active congregant of the First United Methodist Church in Mineola, where she held numerous leadership roles, taught Sunday school, volunteered with the youth group, and played in the handbell choir; in her leisure hours, she enjoyed quilting and gardening, and she relished the time she spent with the Wood County Master Gardeners; and WHEREAS, Possessed of a generous nature, an inspiring work ethic, and an infectious sense of humor, Shirley Chadwick left an indelible mark on all those who shared in the richness of her life, and her contributions to Mineola will continue to resonate for years to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Shirley Chadwick and extend sincere condolences to her loved ones and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Shirley Chadwick.
