                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 85
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize Ruthie Ewers for her many contributions to Texas State
 Technical College and the people of the Rio Grande Valley; and
 WHEREAS, Ruthie Ewers is a distinguished businesswoman,
 philanthropist, and community leader who has made countless
 contributions to the region's quality of life; and
 WHEREAS, In 1974, she and her husband, Norbert Ewers,
 cofounded LEE Marketing, a door-to-door distribution and direct
 mail services company; the firm was a pioneer in the mailing
 industry, and by 1997, it was a $25 million-a-year enterprise;
 its many notable clients included General Motors, Southwest
 Airlines, Universal Studios, and the Dallas Cowboys; and
 WHEREAS, She is active in a wide range of civic and
 charitable organizations, including the Boy Scouts of America,
 the Salvation Army, Loaves and Fishes, and Monica and Maggie's
 House; she has worked tirelessly to raise scholarship money for
 students attending Texas State Technical College, and she was
 recently honored at the college's 12th Annual Noche de Gala
 Scholarship Fundraiser; and
 WHEREAS, Ruthie Ewers has made a profound difference in the
 lives of people across the Rio Grande Valley, and it is truly
 fitting that she receive special recognition; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
 Legislature, hereby commend Ruthie Ewers on her commitment to
 serving others and extend to her best wishes for continued
 success in all her endeavors; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
