| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Eluteria "Susie" Gonzalez for her exemplary career in |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | public service and her many contributions to her community; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A native of Kingsville, Texas, Susie Gonzalez |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | began a career in law enforcement as a jailer with the Kleberg |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | County Sheriff's Department in 1979; she went on to serve as a |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | dispatcher supervisor and a patrol deputy; she became a Kleberg |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | County deputy constable in 1989; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Susie joined the Kenedy County Sheriff's |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Department in 1991, and she served as a deputy there for six |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | years; she then became the first Hispanic woman to be elected to |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | the position of Kenedy County Tax Assessor-Collector, and she |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | served with distinction from 1997 until her retirement on January |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | 1, 2017; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, A tireless steward of the community, Susie played |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | an integral role in organizing the Food Bank of Kenedy County, and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | she volunteered for the organization for 10 years; she also |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | volunteered as a caseworker for the Federal Emergency Management |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Agency when natural disasters struck Kleberg and Kenedy Counties; |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | she has served on a number of civic boards and committees, and she |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | is a longtime member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Sarita, Texas; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Throughout her career, Susie Gonzalez exemplified |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | the highest ideals of law enforcement service and civic |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | leadership; she is beloved by many, and she is indeed deserving of |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | recognition for her years of distinguished public service; now, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature, hereby commend Eluteria "Susie" Gonzalez for her |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | tireless work on behalf of the citizens of Kleberg and Kenedy |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Counties and extend to her best wishes in all her future endeavors; |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | and, be it further |

| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

| 35 | 35 | | her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
