SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 859 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Eluteria "Susie" Gonzalez for her exemplary career in public service and her many contributions to her community; and WHEREAS, A native of Kingsville, Texas, Susie Gonzalez began a career in law enforcement as a jailer with the Kleberg County Sheriff's Department in 1979; she went on to serve as a dispatcher supervisor and a patrol deputy; she became a Kleberg County deputy constable in 1989; and WHEREAS, Susie joined the Kenedy County Sheriff's Department in 1991, and she served as a deputy there for six years; she then became the first Hispanic woman to be elected to the position of Kenedy County Tax Assessor-Collector, and she served with distinction from 1997 until her retirement on January 1, 2017; and WHEREAS, A tireless steward of the community, Susie played an integral role in organizing the Food Bank of Kenedy County, and she volunteered for the organization for 10 years; she also volunteered as a caseworker for the Federal Emergency Management Agency when natural disasters struck Kleberg and Kenedy Counties; she has served on a number of civic boards and committees, and she is a longtime member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Sarita, Texas; and WHEREAS, Throughout her career, Susie Gonzalez exemplified the highest ideals of law enforcement service and civic leadership; she is beloved by many, and she is indeed deserving of recognition for her years of distinguished public service; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, hereby commend Eluteria "Susie" Gonzalez for her tireless work on behalf of the citizens of Kleberg and Kenedy Counties and extend to her best wishes in all her future endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
