SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 863 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Paula Hardy on the occasion of the recent publication of her memoir, Paula's Story; and WHEREAS, Paula Hardy was born prematurely in June of 1956 and diagnosed with cerebral palsy at birth; she was not expected to live more than three days, and doctors informed her mother that, if she did survive, she would suffer from developmental delays and blindness; and WHEREAS, Paula is now 60 years old; her eyesight and intellect are fully intact, and she lives happily at the Hilltop Village Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Kerrville; although she has undergone countless surgeries and has never been able to walk, she has built a fulfilling life of purpose and has brought light into the lives of countless people; and WHEREAS, Paula's memoir chronicles 60 joyful years of hope and perseverance; the author recounts growing up with the loving support of her mother and of her stepfather, who adopted Paula in 1969; and WHEREAS, Paula has had many memorable experiences in her life, and since moving to Hilltop Village almost a decade ago, she has developed a close group of cherished friends who fill her days with parties, dinner excursions, shopping trips, and matinee movies; and WHEREAS, Paula is a beloved member of her community, and she thoroughly enjoys welcoming new residents and getting to know them as neighbors and friends; her memoir is sure to engage readers and to inspire them to truly live life to the fullest; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, hereby recognize Paula Hardy as a treasured citizen of this state and congratulate her on the publication of Paula's Story; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
