SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 895 WHEREAS, The 90th birthday of an esteemed Texan is indeed cause for celebration, and Betty Bob Stewart Massey of Fort Worth is marking this significant milestone in her life on July 30, 2017; and WHEREAS, In 1965, Mrs. Massey moved from Oklahoma to Fort Worth with her husband, Claude, and their three children, Nelda, Gary, and Nancy; she taught at Carter Park Elementary School and then worked at J. T. Stevens Elementary until her retirement in 1987; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Massey's fine family has grown to include eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; as a retired elementary school teacher, she naturally taught each of them how to write in cursive; and WHEREAS, A breast cancer survivor, Mrs. Massey has dedicated herself to helping others win the battle against the disease, and she recently walked in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure for the 25th time; for many years, she ran a 5K almost every weekend, often taking home the first place trophy as the only participant in her age category; she finally hung up her running shoes at the age of 87 but remains very active; and WHEREAS, Meeting life's challenges with resilience, optimism, and determination, Betty Massey is an inspiration to many people, and she holds a special place in the hearts of all who are privileged to know her; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, hereby congratulate Betty Bob Stewart Massey on the occasion of her 90th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for Mrs. Massey as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
