SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 944
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize A. R. "Babe" Schwartz for his distinguished career in
public service and his many contributions to the state; and
WHEREAS, A. R. Schwartz served the people of the Texas Gulf
Coast in the Texas House of Representatives from 1955 to 1959; in
1960, he was elected to the Texas Senate, where he served with
distinction for 21 years; and
WHEREAS, Over the course of his career in the legislature,
Senator Schwartz worked tirelessly to protect the state's beaches
and coastal waters and to fight injustice wherever he found it;
since retiring from the Texas Senate, he has worked as a lobbyist,
advocating for a wide range of causes and organizations, and he has
continued to do so, even as he approaches his 91st birthday; and
WHEREAS, Through the years, Senator Schwartz has received
invaluable support from his beloved wife of more than 60 years,
Marilyn Schwartz, who has graciously served at his side and has
also rendered exceptional service to the Senate Ladies' Club and
the Governor's Mansion; the love and devotion the two have shared
is truly an inspiration to all; and
WHEREAS, Senator Schwartz has been dedicated to making a
difference in the lives of his fellow citizens for more than six
decades, and it is truly fitting that he receive special
recognition; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
Legislature, hereby commend A. R. "Babe" Schwartz on his many
years of outstanding service to the people of Texas and extend to
him best wishes for continued success in all his endeavors; and,
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
