| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, This award program recognizes businesses that |

| 6 | 6 | | have provided employment opportunities and supported the state's |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | economy for at least 50 years; and |

| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Founded in 1908, the weekly newspaper adopted its |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | present name under the ownership of Grayford Jones in 1951, and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | since 1985, the publication has benefited from the vision and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | leadership of its current proprietors, Tom and Karen Pendergast; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of more than a century, the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Winnsboro News has served as a vital source of information to |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | residents of Wood and Franklin Counties, and it is indeed |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | deserving of this prestigious honor; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |

| 17 | 17 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate the Winnsboro News on its |

| 18 | 18 | | receipt of a Texas Treasure Business Award from the Texas |

| 19 | 19 | | Historical Commission and extend to its owners and staff sincere |
