SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 952
WHEREAS, The Winnsboro News is being presented with a Texas
Treasure Business Award by the Texas Historical Commission on
June 1, 2017; and
WHEREAS, This award program recognizes businesses that
have provided employment opportunities and supported the state's
economy for at least 50 years; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1908, the weekly newspaper adopted its
present name under the ownership of Grayford Jones in 1951, and
since 1985, the publication has benefited from the vision and
leadership of its current proprietors, Tom and Karen Pendergast; and
WHEREAS, Over the course of more than a century, the
Winnsboro News has served as a vital source of information to
residents of Wood and Franklin Counties, and it is indeed
deserving of this prestigious honor; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
Legislature, hereby congratulate the Winnsboro News on its
receipt of a Texas Treasure Business Award from the Texas
Historical Commission and extend to its owners and staff sincere
best wishes for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
publication as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
