SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 953
WHEREAS, Locally owned and operated financial institutions
play a vital role in the prosperity of the Lone Star State, and
one such enterprise, Gladewater National Bank, is celebrating
its 35th anniversary in 2017; and
WHEREAS, Recognizing a need for another locally based bank
in their community, seven Gladewater business owners banded
together to establish the new institution; and
WHEREAS, Joe Jones, Curtis Bright, Roy Brown, Jack Earp,
Pete Hawthorne, Sonny Miller, and Sam Rankin laid all the
groundwork for the bank, including filing the banking charter
application, conducting a thorough demographic and economic
survey of the region, raising $2 million in capital from 325
shareholders, and hiring skilled employees; and
WHEREAS, Gladewater National Bank welcomed its first
customer on May 7, 1982, and it celebrated its grand opening on
June 5 of that year with a chamber of commerce ribbon-cutting
ceremony; and
WHEREAS, In the years since, the bank has offered the
residents of Gladewater and the surrounding region a full range
of banking services through its main office on North Main Street
and its convenience center on Broadway; and
WHEREAS, Gladewater National Bank has won the loyalty of
many area residents while contributing to the prosperity of the
local economy, and it is fitting that this notable institution be
recognized for the valued service it provides to the community;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
Legislature, hereby commemorate the 35th anniversary of
Gladewater National Bank and extend to its officers,
shareholders, and employees sincere best wishes for continued
success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
Gladewater National Bank as an expression of high regard from the
Texas Senate.
