55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the creation of a maternal health care improvement
88 program to address maternal morbidity.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Chapter 34, Health and Safety Code, is amended by
1111 adding Section 34.0155 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 34.0155. MATERNAL HEALTH CARE IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM.
1313 The task force shall develop or oversee the development of a program
1414 to distribute maternal health care informational materials to
1515 health care providers in this state to standardize treatment
1616 protocols and improve the health care response for leading causes
1717 of preventable death among pregnant and postpartum women, including
1818 causes related to:
1919 (1) cardiac health conditions;
2020 (2) preeclampsia, eclampsia, and other hypertensive
2121 disorders; and
2222 (3) hemorrhage.
2323 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2424 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2525 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2626 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2727 Act takes effect on the 91st day after the last day of the
2828 legislative session.
