 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 AN ACT
 relating to the creation of a maternal health care improvement
 program to address maternal morbidity.
 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 SECTION 1.  Chapter 34, Health and Safety Code, is amended by
 adding Section 34.0155 to read as follows:
 Sec. 34.0155.  MATERNAL HEALTH CARE IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM.
 The task force shall develop or oversee the development of a program
 to distribute maternal health care informational materials to
 health care providers in this state to standardize treatment
 protocols and improve the health care response for leading causes
 of preventable death among pregnant and postpartum women, including
 causes related to:
 (1)  cardiac health conditions;
 (2)  preeclampsia, eclampsia, and other hypertensive
 disorders; and
 (3)  hemorrhage.
 SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
 Act takes effect on the 91st day after the last day of the
 legislative session.
