55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to use of compensatory education allotment funding to
88 provide assistance to students at risk of dropping out of school who
99 are pregnant or who are parents and requiring reporting through the
1010 Public Education Information Management System.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Section 42.152, Education Code, is amended by
1313 adding Subsections (c-3) and (c-4) to read as follows:
1414 (c-3) Notwithstanding Subsection (c), funds allocated under
1515 this section may be used to:
1616 (1) provide child-care services or assistance with
1717 child-care expenses for students at risk of dropping out of school,
1818 as described by Section 29.081(d)(5); or
1919 (2) pay the costs associated with services provided
2020 through a life skills program in accordance with Sections
2121 29.085(b)(1) and (3)-(7).
2222 (c-4) Not later than January 1, 2018, the commissioner shall
2323 adopt rules requiring the Public Education Information Management
2424 System (PEIMS) to include pregnancy as a reason a student withdraws
2525 from or otherwise no longer attends public school.
2626 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017, if this
2727 Act receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each
2828 house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.
2929 If this Act does not receive the vote necessary to take effect
3030 September 1, 2017, this Act takes effect on the 91st day after the
3131 last day of the legislative session.
