 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The 90th birthday of an esteemed Texan is indeed
 cause for celebration, and L. Don Perkins of Cedar Park marked this
 significant milestone in his life on July 29, 2017; and
 WHEREAS, Born in Amory, Mississippi, in 1927, Don Perkins
 enlisted in the United States Army not long before the end of World
 War II and went on to serve in the Marine Reserve; after attending
 Hinds Junior College, where he was a member of the football team, he
 completed his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and
 business at Mississippi State University; he pursued a career in
 the energy sector and was especially involved in natural gas
 processing; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Perkins has shared a fulfilling marriage of 64
 years with his fellow MSU graduate Virginia Barfield Perkins; they
 are the parents of three treasured children, and they take great
 pride in their eight grandchildren; before moving to Central Texas
 in March 2017, the couple lived in Houston for more than six
 decades; and
 WHEREAS, An avid fisherman, Mr. Perkins was involved in the
 early development of the Coastal Conservation Association, and he
 launched the Star Tournament, which boasted more than 40,000
 participants in 2016; he was also appointed to the Gulf Coast Marine
 Fishery Council by President George H. W. Bush; exploring other
 parts of the country, he hiked down the Grand Canyon when he was 65
 and again at 80, and he continued to ski the moguls until he was 84;
 and
 WHEREAS, Don Perkins has earned the admiration and affection
 of countless people, and it is truly a pleasure to honor him for
 having joined an elite group of Texans who can look back on nine
 decades of meaningful achievements; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate L. Don Perkins
 on his 90th birthday and extend to him sincere best wishes for
 continued happiness; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mr. Perkins as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
