No. 211 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The Roma Middle School Symphonic Winds ensemble earned the distinction of performing at the 70th annual Midwest Clinic International Band, Orchestra and Music Conference, held in Chicago in December 2016; and WHEREAS, Established in 1946, the Midwest Clinic is a prestigious international conference dedicated to helping musicians of all skill levels advance to the next stage of their careers; it annually draws more than 17,000 attendees from all 50 states and over 30 countries and features concerts from ensembles representing a broad range of age groups; selection to perform at the conference is an honor accorded to only a handful of groups and is based largely on performance recordings submitted as part of the application process; and WHEREAS, One of just four middle school bands in the world chosen to perform at the conference in 2016, the Roma ensemble played before an audience of some 2,000 people on December 15; the group is the first concert band from the Rio Grande Valley to be asked to perform at the event since 1952, as well as the first middle school band from South Texas ever to be invited; and WHEREAS, Benefiting from the skillful guidance of head director Corey L. Graves, this exceptional group is composed of Isaac Acevedo, Ivan Aguilar, Jennifer Banda, Israel Barrera, Giovanni Campos, Grace Canales, Yadira Cantu, Zeidy Ceballos, Adamarielle Cordero, Gabriel Cuellar, Benedictor Diaz, Cristian Galindo, Aracely Garcia, Brianna Garcia, Eleno Garcia, Juan G. Garcia, Juan J. Garcia, Valerie Garcia, Jozelito Garza, Luis Garza, Luis F. Garza, Nicole Garza, Emmanuel Gonzalez, Luis Gonzalez, Xiomara Gonzalez, Ariana Guerra, Itzel Gutierrez, Mariano Gutierrez, Anira Hernandez, Estevan Hinojosa, Angel Kernz, Jose Lopez, Julissa Lopez, Jahir Lozano, Mario Madrigal, Ashley Magana, Miranda Mendiola, Allan Molina, Javier Mondragon, Amayli Moreno, Antonio Moreno, Delfino Ramirez, Juan Ramirez, Cassandra Renteria, Pablo Reyes, Alfredo Sanchez, Daniella Sandoval, Joaquin Tovar, Kelsy Trevino, Kaitlyn Valverde, Ana Sofia Vargas, Zayra Vela, Kelsey Vera, and Bianca Zapata; and WHEREAS, The band's performance at the Midwest Clinic is a testament to the immense talent and commitment of its members, who are a source of great pride to their school and community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate the Roma Middle School Symphonic Winds ensemble on its appearance at the 2016 Midwest Clinic International Band, Orchestra and Music Conference and that the group be extended sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the band as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
