45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, For nearly six decades, Joe Rodriguez has rendered
67 exceptional service to the Brownsville Independent School
78 District; and
89 WHEREAS, A native of Edinburg, Joe Rodriguez earned his
910 bachelor's degree at Pan American College, where he also played
1011 basketball and baseball, and he later received a master's degree
1112 from Sam Houston State University; he began his career as an
1213 assistant coach at Brownsville High School in the late 1950s and
1314 worked his way up to athletic director, a post he held from 1991 to
1415 2009; and
1516 WHEREAS, Early in his career, Mr. Rodriguez coached the
1617 Brownsville High baseball team to a state championship appearance
1718 in 1965, and he took the Golden Eagles football team to the
1819 regionals in the 1969 state playoffs; moreover, he was instrumental
1920 in raising college scholarship funds for nearly 1,000 Brownsville
2021 students, and as athletic director, he oversaw the upgrade of BISD
2122 athletic facilities to include all-weather tracks and soccer fields
2223 with lights at each high school campus, as well as the opening of
2324 the Margaret M. Clark Aquatic Center and the renovation of Sams
2425 Memorial Stadium; and
2526 WHEREAS, This notable Texan has further given of his time and
2627 talents as secretary of the Brownsville ISD Board of Trustees, to
2728 which he was reelected in 2014 after first serving that body for 15
2829 years in the 1970s and 1980s; his myriad contributions have been
2930 recognized with his induction into the Texas High School Athletic
3031 Directors Association Hall of Honor, the Texas High School Coaches
3132 Association Hall of Honor, and the Rio Grande Valley Sports Hall of
3233 Fame; and
3334 WHEREAS, Through his outstanding vision and leadership, Joe
3435 Rodriguez has made a positive difference in the lives of countless
3536 young Texans, and he may indeed take pride in his many achievements;
3637 now, therefore, be it
3738 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
3839 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Joe Rodriguez on
3940 his service to the Brownsville Independent School District and
4041 extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
4142 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4243 prepared for Mr. Rodriguez as an expression of high regard by the
4344 Texas House of Representatives.
