 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, For nearly six decades, Joe Rodriguez has rendered
 exceptional service to the Brownsville Independent School
 District; and
 WHEREAS, A native of Edinburg, Joe Rodriguez earned his
 bachelor's degree at Pan American College, where he also played
 basketball and baseball, and he later received a master's degree
 from Sam Houston State University; he began his career as an
 assistant coach at Brownsville High School in the late 1950s and
 worked his way up to athletic director, a post he held from 1991 to
 2009; and
 WHEREAS, Early in his career, Mr. Rodriguez coached the
 Brownsville High baseball team to a state championship appearance
 in 1965, and he took the Golden Eagles football team to the
 regionals in the 1969 state playoffs; moreover, he was instrumental
 in raising college scholarship funds for nearly 1,000 Brownsville
 students, and as athletic director, he oversaw the upgrade of BISD
 athletic facilities to include all-weather tracks and soccer fields
 with lights at each high school campus, as well as the opening of
 the Margaret M. Clark Aquatic Center and the renovation of Sams
 Memorial Stadium; and
 WHEREAS, This notable Texan has further given of his time and
 talents as secretary of the Brownsville ISD Board of Trustees, to
 which he was reelected in 2014 after first serving that body for 15
 years in the 1970s and 1980s; his myriad contributions have been
 recognized with his induction into the Texas High School Athletic
 Directors Association Hall of Honor, the Texas High School Coaches
 Association Hall of Honor, and the Rio Grande Valley Sports Hall of
 Fame; and
 WHEREAS, Through his outstanding vision and leadership, Joe
 Rodriguez has made a positive difference in the lives of countless
 young Texans, and he may indeed take pride in his many achievements;
 now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Joe Rodriguez on
 his service to the Brownsville Independent School District and
 extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mr. Rodriguez as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
