45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the
67 passing of John Benton Love of Mount Vernon on June 30, 2017, at the
78 age of 69; and
89 WHEREAS, A native of Glen Allan, Mississippi, John Love was
910 born on September 10, 1947, to Robert and Lillian Love; after
1011 graduating from Greenville High School, he continued his education
1112 and ultimately earned his Ph.D. in educational psychology from
1213 Mississippi State University; he also answered his nation's call to
1314 duty by serving in the Mississippi Army National Guard; and
1415 WHEREAS, Dr. Love enjoyed a rewarding career in education
1516 that included positions as an art teacher, coach, and principal at
1617 the secondary level in Mississippi; after relocating to Tyler, he
1718 spent more than a decade as a principal at Douglas and Andy Woods
1819 Elementary Schools before becoming director of the Discovery
1920 Science Place, where he oversaw the museum's creation and is
2021 credited with building a number of the exhibits that remain on
2122 display there; he later returned to academia and taught at
2223 Southeastern Oklahoma State University and Jarvis Christian
2324 College; in recent years, he dedicated himself to developing his
2425 craft as an artist; and
2526 WHEREAS, Committed to his local community, Dr. Love shared
2627 his time and talents with the Franklin County Historical
2728 Association and the Franklin County Arts Alliance; and
2829 WHEREAS, Although he will be greatly missed, John Love made a
2930 profound impact on countless young people through his contributions
3031 as an educator, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him
3132 will forever hold him close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
3233 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
3334 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory
3435 of John Benton Love and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of
3536 his family: to his beloved Sandra Love; to his children,
3637 Christopher, Elissa, and Ben; to his grandchildren, Russell, Gray,
3738 Alison, Harper, August, Quentin, Morgan, and Niu Niu; and, be it
3839 further
3940 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4041 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4142 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of John Love.
