| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the |

| 6 | 7 | | passing of John Benton Love of Mount Vernon on June 30, 2017, at the |

| 7 | 8 | | age of 69; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A native of Glen Allan, Mississippi, John Love was |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | born on September 10, 1947, to Robert and Lillian Love; after |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | graduating from Greenville High School, he continued his education |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | and ultimately earned his Ph.D. in educational psychology from |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | Mississippi State University; he also answered his nation's call to |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | duty by serving in the Mississippi Army National Guard; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Love enjoyed a rewarding career in education |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | that included positions as an art teacher, coach, and principal at |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | the secondary level in Mississippi; after relocating to Tyler, he |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | spent more than a decade as a principal at Douglas and Andy Woods |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | Elementary Schools before becoming director of the Discovery |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | Science Place, where he oversaw the museum's creation and is |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | credited with building a number of the exhibits that remain on |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | display there; he later returned to academia and taught at |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | Southeastern Oklahoma State University and Jarvis Christian |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | College; in recent years, he dedicated himself to developing his |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | craft as an artist; and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Committed to his local community, Dr. Love shared |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | his time and talents with the Franklin County Historical |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | Association and the Franklin County Arts Alliance; and |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Although he will be greatly missed, John Love made a |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | profound impact on countless young people through his contributions |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | as an educator, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | will forever hold him close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |

| 32 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 33 | 34 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |
