H.R. No. 297
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Helping Hands for Housing of Richardson is providing
important services to area veterans and their families, and this
admirable group is truly deserving of special recognition; and
WHEREAS, On any given night, nearly 48,000 veterans can be
found living on the streets of the United States, and approximately
22 veterans take their own lives every day; in response to this
urgent problem, Helping Hands for Housing was founded in 2015 by Tom
Parris, who had long been involved in the residential real estate
industry; with a particular focus on aiding those who have served
since 9/11, this notable organization seeks to help homeless
veterans secure affordable housing; and
WHEREAS, In fulfilling its mission, Helping Hands tackles
homelessness using a variety of strategies, including building,
rehabilitating, and managing homes and rental units and organizing
programs to promote homeownership and financial literacy; this
outstanding nonprofit also helps veterans and other homeless
individuals to connect with job centers and to secure job training,
and the group works to increase access to counseling services for
former members of the armed forces and their families; and
WHEREAS, Americans owe a profound debt of gratitude to those
brave men and women who have risked their all in defense of this
nation, and since its inception, Helping Hands for Housing has made
a meaningful difference in the community by ensuring that local
veterans receive the support they so richly deserve; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Helping Hands for
Housing for its efforts in behalf of Texas veterans and extend to
Mr. Parris and all those associated with the organization sincere
best wishes for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Helping Hands for Housing as an expression of high
regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
