 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Dr. Hugh Dell Gatewood has distinguished herself
 through her exemplary service as president of the Woman's Auxiliary
 of the National Baptist Convention, USA; and
 WHEREAS, The Woman's Auxiliary of the National Baptist
 Convention, USA, was established to care for the needs of women
 within the convention by promoting spiritual growth and Christian
 education, training future leaders, and encouraging collaboration;
 and
 WHEREAS, A longtime member of the auxiliary, Dr. Gatewood
 ably guided the group as its president from January 2005 to January
 2017; prior to holding the presidency, she served as vice president
 as well as second vice president and west region director; over the
 years, she has also been instrumental in creating study materials
 and Sunday school curricula, and she has represented the
 organization at a host of international events in the Bahamas,
 Jamaica, Europe, and Africa; and
 WHEREAS, Dr. Gatewood is a native of Houston and a graduate
 of Texas Southern University; she enjoyed a rewarding career in
 education, during which she taught at schools throughout the
 Galveston and Houston Independent School Districts; in her free
 time, she volunteers with the League of Women Voters and
 Compassionate Care Hospice, and she is a speaker, lecturer, and
 workshop presenter; and
 WHEREAS, Sustained by a deep and abiding faith, Dr. Gatewood
 has been a congregant of Greater First Baptist Church for nearly six
 decades; she has also benefited the Baptist community by serving at
 the highest levels within the Woman's Auxiliary of the Lincoln
 Southern District Association and the Woman's Auxiliary of the
 Baptist Missionary and Education Convention of Texas, which she has
 led for 27 years; and
 WHEREAS, Through her vision, hard work, and dedication to
 excellence, Dr. Hugh Dell Gatewood has helped advance the mission
 of the Woman's Auxiliary of the National Baptist Convention, USA,
 and she may indeed reflect with pride on her myriad contributions to
 that organization; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Dr. Hugh Dell
 Gatewood on her service to the Woman's Auxiliary of the National
 Baptist Convention, USA, and extend to her sincere best wishes for
 continued success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Dr. Gatewood as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
