H.R. No. 476
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Isaac Saldivar of the Austin Fire Department has
gone above and beyond the call of duty by raising donations in
behalf of local residents whose home was destroyed in a devastating
fire on August 4, 2017; and
WHEREAS, On that fateful day, Mr. Saldivar was among a group
of AFD crew members who responded to a fire at a house in Southeast
Austin; the blaze caused an estimated $150,000 in damage and
completely gutted the structure; the home's residents, Norma
Guardado and her four young grandchildren, were unharmed but lost
their cat and nearly all of their belongings in the fire; and
WHEREAS, Determined to help the family, Mr. Saldivar
initiated a social media campaign to collect donations, and within
a matter of days, members of the community rallied together to
contribute gift cards, clothing, toys, books, food, and other
necessities; and
WHEREAS, In coming to the aid of his fellow citizens during
their time of need, Isaac Saldivar embodied the highest ideals of
his profession, and his kind and selfless action is indeed
deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Isaac Saldivar for
his efforts to assist a family following a house fire and extend to
him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Saldivar as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
