 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Recent Crane High School graduate David Rombouts was
 named an Outstanding Performer in the keyboard percussion event at
 the University Interscholastic League Texas State Solo and Ensemble
 Contest held in Austin and Pflugerville on May 27-29, 2017; and
 WHEREAS, Each year, some 100,000 student-musicians from
 across Texas participate in the UIL solo and ensemble competition;
 in order to advance to the state contest, students must earn a
 Division I, or "superior," rating at the regional level, and in
 2017, only 287 of the approximately 25,000 contestants who
 qualified for the state competition were selected as Outstanding
 Performers; and
 WHEREAS, During the event, Mr. Rombouts played from memory a
 four-mallet marimba solo, "Strive to be Happy" by Ivan Trevino, and
 his exemplary performance of the piece also garnered him a Division
 I gold medal; while preparing for the contest, he benefited from the
 skilled guidance of band director Daniel Todd; and
 WHEREAS, Through his considerable ability, determination,
 and hard work, David Rombouts has proven himself to be one of the
 finest high school musicians in the Lone Star State, and it is a
 pleasure to recognize him for this notable achievement; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate David
 Rombouts on his selection as an Outstanding Performer at the 2017
 UIL Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest and extend to him sincere
 best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mr. Rombouts as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
