| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Nan Porter graduated from the U.S. Military Academy |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, An alumna of Tascosa High School in Amarillo and |

| 9 | 10 | | Highland Park High School in Dallas, Lieutenant Porter |

| 10 | 11 | | distinguished herself at West Point through her service in numerous |

| 11 | 12 | | leadership roles, including that of company commander, and as |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | co-captain of the Army women's tennis team; she skillfully balanced |

| 13 | 14 | | her military and athletic commitments with a challenging course |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | load that included chemistry, physics, and calculus classes, in |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | addition to the work required to complete her bachelor's degree in |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | Russian; and |

| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Lieutenant Porter is spending part of the summer in |

| 18 | 19 | | Latvia, where she will continue to improve her language skills, |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | before reporting to Fort Sill in Oklahoma on July 25 for artillery |

| 20 | 21 | | school; and |

| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Nan Porter has demonstrated an exemplary commitment |

| 22 | 23 | | to the pursuit of excellence throughout her educational career, and |

| 23 | 24 | | with her graduation from West Point, she joins an elite group of men |

| 24 | 25 | | and women who are exceptionally qualified to provide leadership in |

| 25 | 26 | | this nation's armed forces; now, therefore, be it |

| 26 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
