H.R. No. 67 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Nan Porter graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point on May 27, 2017, and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army; and WHEREAS, An alumna of Tascosa High School in Amarillo and Highland Park High School in Dallas, Lieutenant Porter distinguished herself at West Point through her service in numerous leadership roles, including that of company commander, and as co-captain of the Army women's tennis team; she skillfully balanced her military and athletic commitments with a challenging course load that included chemistry, physics, and calculus classes, in addition to the work required to complete her bachelor's degree in Russian; and WHEREAS, Lieutenant Porter is spending part of the summer in Latvia, where she will continue to improve her language skills, before reporting to Fort Sill in Oklahoma on July 25 for artillery school; and WHEREAS, Nan Porter has demonstrated an exemplary commitment to the pursuit of excellence throughout her educational career, and with her graduation from West Point, she joins an elite group of men and women who are exceptionally qualified to provide leadership in this nation's armed forces; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Nan Porter on her graduation from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and on her commission as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Lieutenant Porter as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
