| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Wellspring Family and Community Institute and to join |

| 4 | 4 | | in the celebration of August 22, 2017, as Michael Pollard--YOGI |

| 5 | 5 | | Bear Mentoring Day; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Wellspring Family and Community Institute is a |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | mental health agency in Houston that provides comprehensive and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | integrated mental and behavioral health services to members of |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | the community; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The institute has developed the Michael |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Pollard--YOGI Bear Mentoring Program in an effort to reduce |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | mental illness, maladaptive behaviors, and drop-out rates |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | among vulnerable children, and to help them begin a path toward |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | long-term success through mentorship; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The program is named in honor of retired United |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | States Air Force Senior Master Sergeant Michael Pollard, a |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | 26-year veteran who travels the world encouraging people of all |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | ages to reach their full potential with what is now the mentoring |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | program's motto: "Gotta Be Smarter than the Average Bear"; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, The YOGI Bear Mentoring Program is being |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | launched ahead of the 2017-2018 school year in order to |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | increase public awareness and to help the institute establish |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | corporate and school partnerships that will strengthen the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | program and create additional opportunities for at-risk youth; |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend all those |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | associated with Wellspring Family and Community Institute for |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | their outstanding work in the community and extend to them best |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | wishes for a memorable Michael Pollard--YOGI Bear Mentoring Day |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | on August 22, 2017; and, be it further |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
