SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 135 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Wellspring Family and Community Institute and to join in the celebration of August 22, 2017, as Michael Pollard--YOGI Bear Mentoring Day; and WHEREAS, Wellspring Family and Community Institute is a mental health agency in Houston that provides comprehensive and integrated mental and behavioral health services to members of the community; and WHEREAS, The institute has developed the Michael Pollard--YOGI Bear Mentoring Program in an effort to reduce mental illness, maladaptive behaviors, and drop-out rates among vulnerable children, and to help them begin a path toward long-term success through mentorship; and WHEREAS, The program is named in honor of retired United States Air Force Senior Master Sergeant Michael Pollard, a 26-year veteran who travels the world encouraging people of all ages to reach their full potential with what is now the mentoring program's motto: "Gotta Be Smarter than the Average Bear"; and WHEREAS, The YOGI Bear Mentoring Program is being launched ahead of the 2017-2018 school year in order to increase public awareness and to help the institute establish corporate and school partnerships that will strengthen the program and create additional opportunities for at-risk youth; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend all those associated with Wellspring Family and Community Institute for their outstanding work in the community and extend to them best wishes for a memorable Michael Pollard--YOGI Bear Mentoring Day on August 22, 2017; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the institute as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
