| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Dr. Isabel Baca, who has been honored with a 2017 |

| 4 | 4 | | Regents' Outstanding Teaching Award by The University of Texas |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | Board of Regents; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Established in 2008, the Regents' Outstanding |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Teaching Awards recognize faculty members in The University of |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Texas System who have demonstrated extraordinary classroom |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | performance and innovation in undergraduate instruction; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Baca is an associate professor of English at |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | The University of Texas at El Paso, where she serves as an |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | instructor in the Rhetoric and Writing Studies Program and as the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | director of the Undergraduate Bilingual Professional Writing |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | certificate program; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Her bicultural upbringing helped shape her |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | professional interests, and she has built a rewarding career with |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | a focus on community writing, bilingual professional writing, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | and service learning; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Baca is a community-engaged scholar who has |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | worked with more than 25 area nonprofits through her work at the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | university; these partnerships enable students to apply their |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | knowledge in beneficial real-world settings as writers, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | translators, researchers, website developers, and social media |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | platform developers; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, A highly respected mentor and academic, Dr. Baca |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | regularly presents at the Conference on College Composition and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Communication, and she has received numerous accolades for |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | excellence in her profession; she is truly deserving of recognition |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | for her exemplary accomplishments; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Dr. Isabel Baca for |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | her outstanding contributions to higher education and congratulate |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | her on receiving a 2017 Regents' Outstanding Teaching Award; and, |
