SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 141
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Dr. Isabel Baca, who has been honored with a 2017
Regents' Outstanding Teaching Award by The University of Texas
Board of Regents; and
WHEREAS, Established in 2008, the Regents' Outstanding
Teaching Awards recognize faculty members in The University of
Texas System who have demonstrated extraordinary classroom
performance and innovation in undergraduate instruction; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Baca is an associate professor of English at
The University of Texas at El Paso, where she serves as an
instructor in the Rhetoric and Writing Studies Program and as the
director of the Undergraduate Bilingual Professional Writing
certificate program; and
WHEREAS, Her bicultural upbringing helped shape her
professional interests, and she has built a rewarding career with
a focus on community writing, bilingual professional writing,
and service learning; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Baca is a community-engaged scholar who has
worked with more than 25 area nonprofits through her work at the
university; these partnerships enable students to apply their
knowledge in beneficial real-world settings as writers,
translators, researchers, website developers, and social media
platform developers; and
WHEREAS, A highly respected mentor and academic, Dr. Baca
regularly presents at the Conference on College Composition and
Communication, and she has received numerous accolades for
excellence in her profession; she is truly deserving of recognition
for her exemplary accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Dr. Isabel Baca for
her outstanding contributions to higher education and congratulate
her on receiving a 2017 Regents' Outstanding Teaching Award; and,
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
