SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 151 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Thelma Lee Burditt Ivison on the joyous occasion of her 100th birthday; and WHEREAS, Thelma Burditt was born on September 22, 1917, in Scurry County, Texas; she graduated from Snyder High School in 1936 and earned a nursing degree from King's Daughters Hospital in Temple in 1939; and WHEREAS, She married Ira Truman Ivison on December 9, 1939, and they were blessed with two daughters and a son; they were married for more than 41 years, until Mr. Ivison passed away in 1981; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Ivison guided her family by loving example; generous and nurturing, she always helped to care for family members in times of illness; and WHEREAS, When her children began to build lives of their own, she initially went to work in a coffee factory; she later worked as a cook for a day care center and as an assembly line worker at a house shoe company; she also learned to play the bass guitar and played with a senior citizens' band that performed at weekly senior dances, nursing homes, and weddings; and WHEREAS, Today, Thelma Ivison continues to drive her own car and to manage her own finances, and she still cares for her home and one-acre property outside of Odessa; she is a strong, loving, and fiercely independent woman who is beloved throughout the community, and her 100th birthday is indeed cause for celebration among her many friends and loved ones; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby recognize Thelma Lee Burditt Ivison as a treasured citizen of the Lone Star State and extend to her congratulations on her 100th birthday; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as a memento of this very special day.
