SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 17
In Memory
of
Jana Graves Kennedy
WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the sorrow felt
at the loss of Jana Graves Kennedy of Paris, Texas, who passed
away on May 20, 2017, at the age of 54; and
WHEREAS, The beloved daughter of Faye and James Graves, the
former Jana Graves was born in Paris on August 14, 1962, and she
grew up with the companionship of her sister, Jeri, and her
brother, Russell; after graduating from North Lamar High School
in 1980, she attended Texas A&M University on a track scholarship
and earned her bachelor's degree in elementary education; and
WHEREAS, In 1985, she married Mike Kennedy, and the couple
became the proud parents of three children, Kara, Cole, and Kyle;
the family first made their home in Texarkana before settling in
Paris; and
WHEREAS, Over the years, Jana Kennedy enjoyed a rewarding
career in education and held teaching positions at elementary
schools in the Pleasant Grove, North Lamar, and Paris Independent
School Districts; committed to her local community, she further
gave of her time and talents by supporting cancer patients
through the Angel Fund and by helping children in need at
Watersprings Ranch; and
WHEREAS, Jana Kennedy immeasurably enriched the lives of
all who were fortunate enough to know her, and those she has left
behind will long cherish their memories of her generosity, her
gentle spirit, and her boundless devotion to her family and her
faith; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory
of Jana Graves Kennedy and extend heartfelt sympathy to her
family and many friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this day, it do
so in memory of Jana Kennedy.
