SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 21 WHEREAS, A 50th wedding anniversary marks a lifetime of mutual devotion and shared experiences, and Burgie and Sher Thompson celebrated this joyous milestone in their marriage on June 3, 2017; and WHEREAS, While serving as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, Burgie Thompson began dating the former Sher Kellogg, a beauty school student; they were joined in matrimony in 1967, and over the years, the couple have been blessed with a treasured family that includes their two daughters, Wyndi and Staci, as well as their five grandchildren, Karlee, Kynzi, Kamren, Blake, and Koby; and WHEREAS, Valued members of the Powderly community, Mr. and Mrs. Thompson have lived in the area for the past two decades; Mr. Thompson had a successful career with Yellow Freight Trucking before attending Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and devoting his life to the ministry, and today he serves as pastor of Sawyer Baptist Church in southern Oklahoma; Mrs. Thompson holds a master's degree in teaching and worked in the North Lamar Independent School District; in her retirement, she has focused her attention on her family as well as the congregation at Sawyer Baptist Church; and WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Thompson have enjoyed a half century of abiding love and affection for each other, and they are among an exceptional group of men and women who can claim such a lasting commitment; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Burgie and Sher Thompson on their 50th wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the couple as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
