| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council, which |

| 4 | 4 | | is celebrating 50 years of service on August 2, 2017; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | was formed in 1967 as one of the state's 24 regional councils of |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | government; the voluntary association promotes cooperation among |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | the local governments of Cameron, Hidalgo, and Willacy Counties |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | to improve the general welfare of the region; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, With a combined population of over 1.2 million |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | residents, the Lower Rio Grande Valley is one of the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | fastest-growing regions in the country; the council promotes a |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | strong economy by establishing studies and strategic plans that |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | guide approaches to development, ensure efficiency in governance, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | and encourage public-private partnerships in regional planning |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | endeavors; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, For five decades, members of the council have |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | worked diligently to ensure the highest quality of life for |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | residents of the Lower Rio Grande Valley; the council has |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | prepared for the future by developing the 2017-2022 Regional |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Strategic Plan, which prioritizes five primary areas of focus |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | that will foster regional prosperity for years to come; now, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend the Lower Rio |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Grande Valley Development Council for contributing to the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | vitality of the region and extend to all associated with the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | council best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | the council as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
