SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 54 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council, which is celebrating 50 years of service on August 2, 2017; and WHEREAS, The Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council was formed in 1967 as one of the state's 24 regional councils of government; the voluntary association promotes cooperation among the local governments of Cameron, Hidalgo, and Willacy Counties to improve the general welfare of the region; and WHEREAS, With a combined population of over 1.2 million residents, the Lower Rio Grande Valley is one of the fastest-growing regions in the country; the council promotes a strong economy by establishing studies and strategic plans that guide approaches to development, ensure efficiency in governance, and encourage public-private partnerships in regional planning endeavors; and WHEREAS, For five decades, members of the council have worked diligently to ensure the highest quality of life for residents of the Lower Rio Grande Valley; the council has prepared for the future by developing the 2017-2022 Regional Strategic Plan, which prioritizes five primary areas of focus that will foster regional prosperity for years to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council for contributing to the vitality of the region and extend to all associated with the council best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the council as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
