| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The 100th birthday of an esteemed Texan is indeed |

| 3 | 3 | | cause for celebration, and Billie Gertrude Hooks Manck marked |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | this momentous milestone in her life on June 3, 2017, in the |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | company of family and friends; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Born in Battiest, Oklahoma, in 1917, the former |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Billie Hooks was the only child of Bessie and Q. P. Hooks; her |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | mother died when she was just two years old, and following her |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | father's remarriage, she grew up with four brothers, Donald, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Bobbie, Charles, and Corky; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, She graduated from Gaston High School, where she |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | met her future husband, Lloyd T. Manck; they married in November |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | 1934, and they eventually became the proud parents of six |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | children, Shirley Ruth, Marilynn, Doris, Donnie, Nina, and Lynn; |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | early in their life together, they moved to Illinois and Ohio, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | but they returned to East Texas in 1942; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Following the war, Mr. Manck founded a machine |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | shop that grew into a firm specializing in road-boring, and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Mrs. Manck frequently accompanied him on business trips across |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | the United States and Canada; in 1954, they relocated the company |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | to 64 acres in Henderson, where they also raised prize-winning |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Herefords and Brittany spaniels; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Manck and her husband shared a fulfilling |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | relationship of nearly 53 years until his passing; she continued to |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | run the machine shop with her son, Lynn, before selling it in 2004; |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | recently, she moved from her home of more than six decades to live |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | with her youngest daughter, Nina; she is the beloved matriarch of a |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | fine family that has grown to include 21 grandchildren, 32 |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren; and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Billie Manck has witnessed a panorama of change |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | over the course of a century, and she has met life's challenges and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | opportunities with dignity and grace, earning the deep admiration |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | of all who are privileged to know her; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Billie |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | Gertrude Hooks Manck on her 100th birthday and extend to her |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | Mrs. Manck as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
