                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 85
 WHEREAS, The Texarkana Noon Lions Club is celebrating its
 centennial in 2017, and this occasion provides a fitting
 opportunity to celebrate its members' tireless efforts in behalf
 of their fellow citizens; and
 WHEREAS, A Founder Club of Lions Clubs International, one
 of the most successful service organizations in American
 history, the Texarkana Noon Lions Club was chartered by 40 local
 businessmen on February 19, 1917; since its inception, its
 members have embraced the goals of Lions International, seeking
 to better their communities and the lives of people at home and
 around the world; and
 WHEREAS, The Texarkana Noon Lions have had a long
 association with the Boy Scouts of America, and they played a
 leading role in the establishment of Camp Preston Hunt, which was
 named for a member of the club; the group has also provided
 support to many worthy charities and causes, including Toys for
 Tots, Shop with a Cop, the Salvation Army, Watersprings Ranch,
 Wounded Warrior Project, scholarships for students, and the
 local animal shelter; and
 WHEREAS, Committed to the Lions International mission of
 promoting eye health, preventing blindness, and restoring sight,
 the Texarkana Noon Lions Club also joins in sponsoring eye banks,
 eyeglass recycling centers, vision screenings, and medical
 research; and
 WHEREAS, Under the motto "We Serve," the public-spirited
 members of the Texarkana Noon Lions Club continue to give
 generously of their time and talents to help those in need and to
 promote the welfare of their community, and it is a pleasure to
 recognize this momentous milestone as they look forward to
 another outstanding century of service; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commemorate the 100th
 anniversary of the Texarkana Noon Lions Club and extend to its
 members sincere best wishes for continued success in their
 important work; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 the Texarkana Noon Lions Club as an expression of high regard
 from the Texas Senate.
