| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, James Pierson retired as chief of the Henderson |
|---|
| 3 | 3 | | Police Department on July 26, 2017, concluding nearly three |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | decades of exemplary service to that agency; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Pierson joined the department as a patrol |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | officer in 1989, and over the years, he rose steadily through the |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | ranks, serving as a sergeant, detective, captain, assistant |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | chief, and deputy chief before becoming chief of police in |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | October 2014; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, During his outstanding tenure, Chief Pierson |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | faithfully upheld his duties as the city's principal law |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | enforcement officer, and among his many contributions to his |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | department was the instrumental role he played in establishing an |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | effective training program and in fostering the continuing |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | professional development of the department's officers; he also |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | traveled across the nation teaching use-of-force and evidence |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | development classes as well as instructor-level training courses |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | at other police departments; in addition, he has been an adjunct |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | instructor and advisory board member for the East Texas Police |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Academy and a member of the board of the Rusk-Panola Children's |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Advocacy Center; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Chief Pierson's dedication, professionalism, and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | commitment to serving and protecting the public have earned him |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | the respect and admiration of his fellow officers and of the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | people of Henderson, and he may indeed reflect with pride on a |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | career well spent as he embarks on the next exciting chapter of |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | his life; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate James |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Pierson on his retirement as chief of the Henderson Police |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Department and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | happiness and fulfillment; and, be it further |

| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
