SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 87 WHEREAS, James Pierson retired as chief of the Henderson Police Department on July 26, 2017, concluding nearly three decades of exemplary service to that agency; and WHEREAS, Mr. Pierson joined the department as a patrol officer in 1989, and over the years, he rose steadily through the ranks, serving as a sergeant, detective, captain, assistant chief, and deputy chief before becoming chief of police in October 2014; and WHEREAS, During his outstanding tenure, Chief Pierson faithfully upheld his duties as the city's principal law enforcement officer, and among his many contributions to his department was the instrumental role he played in establishing an effective training program and in fostering the continuing professional development of the department's officers; he also traveled across the nation teaching use-of-force and evidence development classes as well as instructor-level training courses at other police departments; in addition, he has been an adjunct instructor and advisory board member for the East Texas Police Academy and a member of the board of the Rusk-Panola Children's Advocacy Center; and WHEREAS, Chief Pierson's dedication, professionalism, and commitment to serving and protecting the public have earned him the respect and admiration of his fellow officers and of the people of Henderson, and he may indeed reflect with pride on a career well spent as he embarks on the next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate James Pierson on his retirement as chief of the Henderson Police Department and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued happiness and fulfillment; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for Chief Pierson as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
