2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Boys Town Texas has made a vital difference in the |

3 | 3 | | lives of countless children and their families for nearly three |
---|
4 | 4 | | decades; and |
---|
5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The original Boys Town was founded in 1917 near |
---|
6 | 6 | | Omaha, Nebraska, by Father Edward Flanagan, who wanted to provide |
---|
7 | 7 | | a refuge, education, and vocational training for boys in need of |
---|
8 | 8 | | a safe, stable environment; the institution pioneered new methods |
---|
9 | 9 | | of caring for children in crisis, with a particular emphasis on |
---|
10 | 10 | | helping young people become productive members of society; and |
---|
11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, A regional center, Boys Town Texas, was established |
---|
12 | 12 | | in San Antonio in 1989, and over the years, it has touched the |
---|
13 | 13 | | lives of more than 22,000 young people and 4,300 families; the |
---|
14 | 14 | | organization has worked to keep children in their own homes |
---|
15 | 15 | | whenever possible by strengthening parents' child-raising skills |
---|
16 | 16 | | and by connecting families with community resources and supports, |
---|
17 | 17 | | and it has arranged for out-of-home care when necessary; it has |
---|
18 | 18 | | also provided training for foster parents, therapy services for |
---|
19 | 19 | | children and families, and emergency, short-term care for |
---|
20 | 20 | | children in urgent need of assistance; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Boys Town Texas has also furthered its mission by |
---|
22 | 22 | | hosting an annual 5K-10K race to raise awareness and funding for |
---|
23 | 23 | | child abuse prevention and by collaborating with the United Way, |
---|
24 | 24 | | churches, civic organizations, and other groups to improve the |
---|
25 | 25 | | lives of area children; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Since its inception, Boys Town Texas has contributed |
---|
27 | 27 | | immeasurably to bettering the lives of thousands of young Texans |
---|
28 | 28 | | and their families, giving them the hope of a healthier, |
---|
29 | 29 | | brighter, and more promising future; now, therefore, be it |
---|
30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
---|
31 | 31 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Boys Town Texas |
---|
32 | 32 | | for its contributions to the community and extend to its |
---|
33 | 33 | | management, staff, and volunteers sincere gratitude for their |
---|
34 | 34 | | years of skilled and compassionate care; and, be it further |
---|
35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for Boys |
