11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 94
22 WHEREAS, Boys Town Texas has made a vital difference in the
33 lives of countless children and their families for nearly three
44 decades; and
55 WHEREAS, The original Boys Town was founded in 1917 near
66 Omaha, Nebraska, by Father Edward Flanagan, who wanted to provide
77 a refuge, education, and vocational training for boys in need of
88 a safe, stable environment; the institution pioneered new methods
99 of caring for children in crisis, with a particular emphasis on
1010 helping young people become productive members of society; and
1111 WHEREAS, A regional center, Boys Town Texas, was established
1212 in San Antonio in 1989, and over the years, it has touched the
1313 lives of more than 22,000 young people and 4,300 families; the
1414 organization has worked to keep children in their own homes
1515 whenever possible by strengthening parents' child-raising skills
1616 and by connecting families with community resources and supports,
1717 and it has arranged for out-of-home care when necessary; it has
1818 also provided training for foster parents, therapy services for
1919 children and families, and emergency, short-term care for
2020 children in urgent need of assistance; and
2121 WHEREAS, Boys Town Texas has also furthered its mission by
2222 hosting an annual 5K-10K race to raise awareness and funding for
2323 child abuse prevention and by collaborating with the United Way,
2424 churches, civic organizations, and other groups to improve the
2525 lives of area children; and
2626 WHEREAS, Since its inception, Boys Town Texas has contributed
2727 immeasurably to bettering the lives of thousands of young Texans
2828 and their families, giving them the hope of a healthier,
2929 brighter, and more promising future; now, therefore, be it
3030 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
3131 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Boys Town Texas
3232 for its contributions to the community and extend to its
3333 management, staff, and volunteers sincere gratitude for their
3434 years of skilled and compassionate care; and, be it further
3535 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for Boys
3636 Town Texas as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
