                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 94
 WHEREAS, Boys Town Texas has made a vital difference in the
 lives of countless children and their families for nearly three
 decades; and
 WHEREAS, The original Boys Town was founded in 1917 near
 Omaha, Nebraska, by Father Edward Flanagan, who wanted to provide
 a refuge, education, and vocational training for boys in need of
 a safe, stable environment; the institution pioneered new methods
 of caring for children in crisis, with a particular emphasis on
 helping young people become productive members of society; and
 WHEREAS, A regional center, Boys Town Texas, was established
 in San Antonio in 1989, and over the years, it has touched the
 lives of more than 22,000 young people and 4,300 families; the
 organization has worked to keep children in their own homes
 whenever possible by strengthening parents' child-raising skills
 and by connecting families with community resources and supports,
 and it has arranged for out-of-home care when necessary; it has
 also provided training for foster parents, therapy services for
 children and families, and emergency, short-term care for
 children in urgent need of assistance; and
 WHEREAS, Boys Town Texas has also furthered its mission by
 hosting an annual 5K-10K race to raise awareness and funding for
 child abuse prevention and by collaborating with the United Way,
 churches, civic organizations, and other groups to improve the
 lives of area children; and
 WHEREAS, Since its inception, Boys Town Texas has contributed
 immeasurably to bettering the lives of thousands of young Texans
 and their families, giving them the hope of a healthier,
 brighter, and more promising future; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Boys Town Texas
 for its contributions to the community and extend to its
 management, staff, and volunteers sincere gratitude for their
 years of skilled and compassionate care; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for Boys
 Town Texas as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
