| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | citizens of Edinburg in mourning the loss of Lucia Saldaña |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Palacios, who died June 5, 2017, at the age of 91; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Palacios was a beloved matriarch who |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | inspired those who knew her with her many acts of kindness, her |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | exquisite singing voice, and her deep and abiding faith; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Lucia Saldaña Palacios was born on February 25, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | 1926, in Kyle, Texas; she met the late Nicolas Palacios Sr. while |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | they were working together in a cotton field, and he immediately |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | professed his love for her; they eloped after Mr. Palacios heard |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | her sing at a church festival, and soon after their nuptials, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | they settled in Edinburg; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Palacios were blessed with 12 |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | children, Fred Palacios, Teresa Leal, the late Nicolas Palacios |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Jr., Juan Palacios, the late Ernesto Palacios, Janie Zamorano, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Olga Rodriguez, Rene Palacios, Mary Alice Palacios, Patricia |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Garza, Julie Carcaño, and Toribio Palacios, and over the years, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | the family has grown to include 61 grandchildren, 126 |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | great-grandchildren, and 29 great-great-grandchildren; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Palacios found immense joy in cooking for her |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | children and grandchildren, and she was an active parishioner at |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Holy Family Catholic Church for almost 50 years; she was known |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | for singing beautiful prayers and rosaries, and she was a |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | longtime member of the Guadalupanas ministry; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, A woman of great wisdom, warmth, and generosity, |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Mrs. Palacios guided her family by loving spiritual example; she |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | was a cherished member of the community, and she will long be |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | remembered with great respect and admiration by all who were |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | privileged to share in her life; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere condolences |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | to the bereaved family of Lucia Saldaña Palacios; and, be it further |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |

| 40 | 40 | | memory of Lucia Palacios. |
