                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 98
 In Memory
 of
 Lucia Saldaña Palacios
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
 citizens of Edinburg in mourning the loss of Lucia Saldaña
 Palacios, who died June 5, 2017, at the age of 91; and
 WHEREAS, Mrs. Palacios was a beloved matriarch who
 inspired those who knew her with her many acts of kindness, her
 exquisite singing voice, and her deep and abiding faith; and
 WHEREAS, Lucia Saldaña Palacios was born on February 25,
 1926, in Kyle, Texas; she met the late Nicolas Palacios Sr. while
 they were working together in a cotton field, and he immediately
 professed his love for her; they eloped after Mr. Palacios heard
 her sing at a church festival, and soon after their nuptials,
 they settled in Edinburg; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Palacios were blessed with 12
 children, Fred Palacios, Teresa Leal, the late Nicolas Palacios
 Jr., Juan Palacios, the late Ernesto Palacios, Janie Zamorano,
 Olga Rodriguez, Rene Palacios, Mary Alice Palacios, Patricia
 Garza, Julie Carcaño, and Toribio Palacios, and over the years,
 the family has grown to include 61 grandchildren, 126
 great-grandchildren, and 29 great-great-grandchildren; and
 WHEREAS, Mrs. Palacios found immense joy in cooking for her
 children and grandchildren, and she was an active parishioner at
 Holy Family Catholic Church for almost 50 years; she was known
 for singing beautiful prayers and rosaries, and she was a
 longtime member of the Guadalupanas ministry; and
 WHEREAS, A woman of great wisdom, warmth, and generosity,
 Mrs. Palacios guided her family by loving spiritual example; she
 was a cherished member of the community, and she will long be
 remembered with great respect and admiration by all who were
 privileged to share in her life; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere condolences
 to the bereaved family of Lucia Saldaña Palacios; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
 memory of Lucia Palacios.
