9+ A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
410 AN ACT
511 relating to the inclusion of information about oversize and
612 overweight vehicles in the curriculum of driver education and
713 driving safety courses.
814 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
915 SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 1001, Education Code, is
1016 amended by adding Section 1001.1092 to read as follows:
1117 Sec. 1001.1092. INFORMATION RELATING TO OVERSIZE AND
1218 OVERWEIGHT VEHICLES. The commission by rule shall require that
1319 information relating to methods of safely operating a motor vehicle
1420 near an oversize or overweight vehicle, including safe following
1521 distances and safe passing methods, be included in the curriculum
1622 of each driver education course and driving safety course.
1723 SECTION 2. (a) Not later than March 1, 2020, the Texas
1824 Commission of Licensing and Regulation shall adopt the rules
1925 required by Section 1001.1092, Education Code, as added by this
2026 Act.
2127 (b) Not later than September 1, 2020, each provider of a
2228 driver education course or driving safety course shall submit the
2329 curriculum adopted pursuant to Section 1001.1092, Education Code,
2430 as added by this Act, to the Texas Commission of Licensing and
2531 Regulation for approval.
2632 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
