 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 AN ACT
 relating to a credit toward payment of costs for a defendant
 confined in jail or another facility before sentencing.
 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 SECTION 1.  Section 2, Article 42.03, Code of Criminal
 Procedure, is amended by adding Subsection (a-1) to read as
 follows:
 (a-1)  In addition to the credit on the defendant's sentence
 given under Subsection (a), for each day of confinement described
 by Subdivision (1) of that subsection, the judge shall give the
 defendant, at a rate of $100 per day, credit toward payment of costs
 imposed on the defendant.
 SECTION 2.  The change in law made by this Act applies to a
 defendant who is sentenced for an offense on or after the effective
 date of this Act, regardless of whether the offense is committed
 before, on, or after the effective date of this Act.
 SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
